Governor DeWine and First Lady with student

Harold Schnell Elementary was 1 of 47 schools in the state that received the Governor’s Science of Reading recognition.

The school was the first in the state to have Governor DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine visit and congratulate the staff for their work on literacy. The Governor and First Lady visited the Literacy Lab where children meet in small groups to work on literacy skills. They also had the opportunity to observe teachers in the classroom.

One of the day's highlights was when the First Lady read a book to a group of second-grade students. The Governor concluded his visit by presenting the school with a Governor's Science of Reading Recognition banner and talking about what the faculty, leadership, and kids are doing.

The Governor stated, “We’re very proud of them.”
