What are the symptoms of influenza?

Symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, body aches, headaches, and fatigue.

How does influenza spread?

Influenza is a contagious respiratory disease caused by influenza viruses. It is spread from person to person through droplets released when people with flu cough, sneeze, or talk. It may also spread by touching a surface or object with the flu virus on it and then touching your mouth, nose, or eyes.

How can we limit the spread of influenza viruses?

Stay home when sick and for at least 24 hours after the fever is gone.

Get a flu vaccine now – it is not too late!

Avoid close contact with people that are sick.

Anyone coughing or sneezing should use a tissue or cough or sneeze into their elbow. Throw used tissues into the trash and immediately wash hands.

Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated. These include high touch surfaces such as toys, doorknobs, light switches, etc.
